Explore your personality - and the science behind it all with Personality, by Signal Patterns.

iPhone EDITORS PICK (iphone.tmcnet.com)

The Personality iPhone application is the most detailed psychology-based application available on the iPhone.

------------------------------
The Application:

Brought to you by the researchers and psychologists at Signal Patterns, Personality uses a novel algorithm that scores unique personality traits rather than rough "buckets" of personality types. To describe each person, the algorithm uses 45 different personality traits, each scored on a separate scale, resulting in extremely unique depictions of ones personality.

And once you learned about yourself, you can learn about the science behind the application:

-- Watch videos and hear from Science team members themselves discuss the underlying Big 5 Personality theory.

-- Read about the psychological models and the key scientists themselves.

-- View detailed websites to explore about the application’s scientific theories.

-- Share your results on Facebook

The Science:

Personality psychology has gone through a revolution over the past two decades, shifting from the use of simple types into much more specific and detailed trait theory.

The leading industry personality model, The Big Five has been shown to be consistent and robust across different languages, countries and cultures, providing a core depiction of human personality.

This model is now used by psychologists, human resources experts, counselors and behavioral researchers. In the Big Five model, the emotional, cognitive and behavioral attributes of a person are described by their level of exhibiting the five following traits (or factors): Extroversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness/Intellect.

Signal Patterns’ algorithm uses this model and extends it to 45 specific "facets" of human personality, each facet being a mixture of two of the big five traits.
